DESCRIZIONE:
This painting was destined for the Bishop of Mantua, Ludovico Gonzaga, but when the artist died in 1506 it remained in his studio. The saint emerges dramatically from the dark background whilst, at the bottom, a candle with a cartouche reminds us that the divine is immutable.
