Madonna and Child
(ground floor, room 2)
The Virgin Mary is sitting in front of a piece of Renaissance architecture with fluted pilasters reminiscent of Brunelleschi’s prototypes.
The scene is framed by rich golden brocades inspired by the works of Gentile da Fabriano, which seem to lay on the table like stage curtains.
Proof of the artist’s exceptional skill is provided by the spiritual effect created by the light from the window in the top left, which shines softly onto the pilasters in the background.
