The Robing of the Bride

Max Ernst

Peggy Guggenheim Collection

DESCRIZIONE:
The painting is an example of Ernst’s illusionist surrealism, in which a traditional technique is applied to a non-realist subject. The elegance of the picture thus contrasts with the fantastical character of the protagonists in whom, perhaps, we can identify Ernst himself in the bird and the English surrealist painter Leonora Carrington in the bride.
