Volta Altoviti

Giorgio Vasari

National Museum of Palazzo Venezia

DESCRIZIONE:

The entire vaulted ceiling of the hall is a reconstruction of the decorations of the Loggia of Palazzo Altoviti, a building once in front of Castel Sant’Angelo, in Piazza di Ponte, property of the family of florentine bankers. It was destroyed in 1888 to make room for the brick embankments of the Tiber. The frescoes represent the goddess Ceres at the center of the vault, the allegories of Florence and Rome and the twelve months of the year.
