The Gardener
National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art
The painting testifies to the chromatic changes of the work of the famous artist, that, once arrived in Provence, started using much lighter colors. The work is also an important example of Van Gogh's portrait work, here showing a simple farmer. The work was purchased in 1989 and stolen in May of 1998 but found just a few weeks later. The Gallery also hosts another painting by Van Gogh: the Arlesiana.
