Stairway of Giants
Palazzo Ducale (The Doges’ Palace)
The stairway opens on the elegant oriental facade of the internal courtyard. It was built between 1484 and 1501 by Antonio Rizzo as the stairway of honor of the building, later known as the stairway of the giants for the two colossal statues of Mars and Neptune by Jacopo Sansovino, symbols of power for Venice both on land and sea, placed there in 1567.
