DESCRIZIONE:

The painting depicts the legend of the origins of Rome with the mythical Romulus and Remus breastfed by a wolf near Trastevere. The roman river is personified in the old man with his back turned, while the tree in the background is the fig tree underwhich they were suckled according to the texts of Titus Livius and Tacitus.
