Portrait of Andrea Doria
One of the testimonies to the immense ability as a portraitist of the great venetian painter who made roman-tuscan art his own thanks to his friendship with Michelangelo.Andrea Doria (1466-1560) was the great admiral of the Republic of Genoa that guided the papal fleet with Clement VII and that served sovereigns Francesco I and Carlo V. The painting entered the collection in 1760 when, with the extintion of the Pamphilj, all their possessions went to the genovese Doria Pamphilj.
