Madonna and Child
The painting, one of the celebrated painter's early works, represents the traditional motif of the Virgin redone like a scene from daily life, a simple relationship between mother and son. Naturally, this is a counter-reformist version of the subject matter, meant to speak more directly to the people, rather than the typical "inaccessability" of the sacred.
