Antonio Canova

GAM – Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea

DESCRIZIONE:
This marble sculpture by Canova was commissioned by the Marquis Tancredi Falletti of Barolo and donated by him in 1825. When it went on display in Turin, it won huge praise for its austere, “ideal” portrayal of beauty. The work was completed in 1820 and two plaster casts of it survive: one in the Correr Museum in Venice and one in the Possagno Plaster Cast Gallery.
