In 1909 Balla joined his younger disciples Boccioni and Severini throwing himself enthusiastically in the futurist adventure theorised by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti. His divisionist touches turned into studies on movement, a theme close to Futurism, that the artist often represents with a sequence of gestures of a moving body.
