Three Angels and Young Tobias
Centro
- Artist: Filippino Lippi
- Location: Three Angels and Young Tobias
- Date: 1477 - 1478
(ground floor, room 3)
This beautiful picture shows the striking resemblance between the paintings of Filippino Lippi and those of Sandro Botticelli, who took him into his workshop as an apprentice in the second half of the 1460s. The symbols make it easy to identify the angels to the sides: Michael has the sword that he used to banish Satan to Hell and Gabriel is holding the lily of the Annunciation.
The third archangel is instead characterized by an attribute "narrative", the young Tobias, leading a Bible story: Raffaele in fact helped the boy to catch a miraculous fish, essential for healing from blindness father Tobit.
