The frescoes that decorate the apse of the basilica, already attributed to Pinturicchio, today are considered the work of the important roman painter. At the center is Christ Giving His Blessing Surrounded by Angels which shows the gospels open on his knee; at the bottom are scenes narrating the story behind finding the wooden relic of the Cross upon which Christ was crucified.
