- Date: 40 B.C. - 20 B.C.
These were frescoes from the underground nymphaeum of the villa at Prima Porta of Livia Drusilla, third wife of Octavius Augustus. The frescoes offer a view of splendid gardens animated by birds and occupied an entire hall that measured 5.90 x 11.70 m. They are one of the masterpieces of roman painting which have reached us through the ages.
