Selected in 2013 to represent Kosovo at the Venice Biennale, Petrit Halilaj (1986, Kostërrc, Skenderaj-Kosovo) is one of the most promising artists of his generation. His oeuvre includes sculptures, drawings, performances, videos and installations that, starting from his personal story and that of his family and country, examine subjects connected with memory and collective history.
The exhibition at HangarBicocca is his first solo show at an Italian institution and it offers an unprecedented assembly of the artist’s different projects, in a rich exchange of references and allusions between the works and the exhibition space.
Halilaj, who graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan, has exhibited at various international institutions, including Kunstraum Innsbruck (2011); WIELS Contemporary Art Center, Brussels (2013); Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne, and Bundeskunsthalle, Bonn (2015). He also participated in the 6th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art (2010).
Opening 2 December 2015, 7pm
