After the success of its debut at the “Festival delle Scienza di Genova" of 2015 (about 15.000 visits), the exhibition arrives in the Emilian city, thanks to the collaboration with the National Institute of Nuclear Physics - INFN - Unit of Bologna, an institution always at the forefront in the studies of Physics.
Its final destination will be the historic building of the Physics Institute of Via Panisperna in Rome.
The exhibition highlights the extaordinary figure of Enrico Fermi, the great Italian physicist who, paradoxically, is better known abroad than in Italy, who was a man with an exceptional creative mind, with a dual genius "equally balanced" between theories and experiments.
The Exhibition has been organised by the "Enrico Fermi" Historical Museum of Physics & Study and Research Centre (Centro Fermi), in collaboration with the Italian Physical Society (SIF).
The scientific achievements, integrated into the various stages of the scientist's life, are presented in a new light suitable for the general public, including the very young, combining objects and traditional panels with video and audio multimedia products in an original way.
Alongside the Exhibition there will be a programme of conferences and viewings of documentaries that will take place. There is also a small bookstore where various books and publications linked to Fermi's life are on display.
The Exhibition is organised in "stages". In addition to the scientific stages there are also those that more closely pertain to his private life and the environment in which he worked.
Enrico Fermi's greatness, his extraordinary figure as a master and a giant of physics in the 20th century, is presented in this Exhibition that sets out to illustrate the formidable scientific results achieved by this scientist. At the heart of the Exhibition, the original previously unknown logbook by Fermi from 1934 which bears witness to one of his greatest discoveries will be on display.
The Exhibition is meant to be an extension of the first (touring) Exhibition "Enrico Fermi and the nuclear fire of peace" organised by the Centro Fermi to honour the figure of Fermi. This first Exhibition, conceived by the then Centro Fermi's President, Antonino Zichichi, was inaugurated in 2007 at the temporary seat of the Centre in Rome, in the premises of the Ministry of Interior at the Viminal Hill.
The present Exhibition will occupy as a permanent show the rooms of the future Fermi Museum inside the institutional seat of the Centro Fermi, namely the historic building of the Physics Institute of Via Panisperna in Rome, currently under refurbishment .
