The White Horse

Mario Sironi

Peggy Guggenheim Collection

DESCRIZIONE:
The work was carried out by Mario Sironi in the delicate transitional moment from Futurism to metaphysical art. The upper section is reminiscent of “Composition with Helix” and is painted in a style heavily influenced by Cubism and Futurism. The lower section, including the nude and the horse, depicts a narrative quality that betrays Sironi's sympathy for the metaphysical work of Giorgio de Chirico and Carlo Carrà. The sensation of finding oneself in an urban context, strangely inhabited by mythological figures recalls the disturbing atmosphere of metaphysical art.
