The Royal Tombs
The left entrance of the basilica provides access to these tombs, which have been the final resting place for the members of the House of Savoy since 1731. The rooms and the central chapel under the basilica were designed by Juvarra and completed by Francesco Martinez and Carlo Amedeo Rana (1778). In addition to the Tomb of Charles Albert, the burial places of Victor Amadeus II, Charles Emmanuel III and Victor Amadeus III are all found here. In the queens’ crypt, the tombs of Adelaide of Austria and Maria Vittoria of Aosta are particularly noteworthy.
