Fishing Scene Mosaic
Archaeological investigations have made it possible to document the different phases of evolution of the domus, which was the subject of various transformations and renovations.
One of these includes the large mosaic with a fishing scene, made in the 4th century AD and placed in the reception room opening onto the garden.
Preceded by at least two older mosaic floors of equal size, the mosaic has a square in the center that circumscribes a tondo. Inside, a small boat decorated with fishing cherubs can be recognized, while at the corners four heads are represented among dolphins. The remaining surface, divided into squares, has figures of animals (including two tigers), heavily damaged.
