Apse Mosaic
Basilica of St. Maria in Domnica
One of the mosaics dating back to Pope Paschal I, who at the start of the Ninth Century used byzantine masters, that then spread the art of Constantinople throughout Rome. The work decorates the apse of the church and depicts the Virgin with Baby Jesus surrounded by angels, while at her feet is a miniature Paschal I with the square halo of the living. On the external arch is the main mosaic, depicting Moses and Elijah, while above is Christ between Two Angels and the Apostles.
