DESCRIZIONE:
The Santa Maria dei Carmini grand school is the last one of the eight grand schools of Venice. It was founded in 1594 by Bernardino Soardi from Bergamo who resumed the ancient devotion to the Carmine Scapular, a special apron worn by Carmelites and spread as a Marian devotional object by an all-women confraternity in this area of Venice. The seat of the school was built from 1627 by Franco Cantello while the two facades are attributed to Baldassarre Longhena (1668).
