DESCRIZIONE:
The baroque compound was built by Filippo Juvarra (1729) for the hunting excursions of Victor Amadeus II and the Statue of deer on its dome is a reminder of its destination as a hunting lodge. The hall of fame is the core from which the four diagonal cross-bracing arms branch out, while the northern wings with the court rooms were made by Benedetto Alfieri (1739). The building is managed by the order of SS. Maurizio e Lazzaro and houses the Museum of Art and Furniture showing paintings, original decors of the hunting residence and of other residences of the House of Savoy. In 2004, 27 objects and four paintings were stolen, all luckily salvaged in good conditions the following year near Villastellone, a short distance from Turin.
