This sculpture is one of the greatest works by Medardo Rosso, an Italian sculptor who worked for many years in France. Donated by the artist in 1914, it is the only work that was never replicated. It demonstrates the attempt to go beyond naturalism to get closer to a pure form in which the female face appears to merge with the material, emerging only in a few features.
