This is the sculptural masterpiece which begins the baroque era. Under the altar of the church, the statue, according to tradition, reproduces the body of the saint in the exact position she was found in her old tomb, with her face turned away. The masterpiece of Maderno was a point of reference for many works to follow.
THINGS TO KNOW: The intact body of Santa Cecilia was found on 20 October 1599, during excavations of the ancient basilica, thanks to a clairvoyant, the farmer from Morlupo Francesco Paluzzi, who pointed out the location of the grave.
