The chapel takes the name of Pope Niccolò V who commissioned its decorations. It is the chapel of the papal apartment of the 1400s and the oldest wing of the Vatican, placed at the center of the Tower of Innocence III (1198-1216). Beato Angelico had some collaborators including Benozzo Gozzoli, to create the series of frescoes Stories of Saint Stefano and Lorenzo, Fathers of the Eastern and Western Churches and The Evangelists.
