Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 6 pm, will open the exhibition The inner life. Drawings of Nives Kavuri?-Kurtovi?. Guest of the evening, the artist Anabel Ciliberti with Performance of extemporaneous Design.
All the paintings and drawings of Nives KK seem extracted from the inner with a unique mineral, flow of a deep vein that shines even when it flows into the dark abyss of being. It's a vein of a precious metal, hot, shiny, flexible, sometimes very fluid at times by the fragile boundaries; but it is also, of course, a vein of human blood, as in the unforgettable words of Ivan Goran Kova?i? "it carries with it all the light and all the darkness of existence". A unique process of purification and sublimation extracts from this vein, the fine lines that get tangled around the shapes of the artist, wrapping itself and wrapping an organic whole surface near his hand, at the moment of creation. Like the mythical Midas whose touch turned things most common in gold, this artist gives the luster of his own blood flow on each piece of paper, canvas or wood that has at hand, subduing the rhythm of his pulse and enriching it with the reflection of an original fertility.
Nives Kavuri?-Kurtovi? was born in Zagreb in 1938, where, after attending high school, he enrolled at the Accademia delle Belle Arti He graduated in 1962 and that same year he joined the Master's Kriste Hegeduši? atelier where it will remain until 1967. In 1983 he became professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1997 and is also a member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts In addition to engaging in work of drawing and painting is also an illustrator and graphic.
He has traveled, studied and exhibited throughout Europe and the USA receiving numerous awards and tributes both in his country (Vladimir Nazor annual award, Zagreb 1998) and abroad (including: young people in the Paris Biennial Prize 1967 Award for the first Yugoslav Biennial of Art in New York, 1978). Nives KK has already exhibited for Ikona Gallery in 2000 to Salt warehouses, Venice. His works are in museums, galleries and private collections in Croatia and abroad.
