Spanish Pavilion - Los Sujetos [The Subjects]

Artists Cabello / Carceller, Francesc Ruiz and Pepo Salazar, inspired by Salvador Dali, will be the stars of the Spanish Pavilion of the 56th edition of the Venice Biennale, which will open on May 9. The curator Martí Manen has orchestrated a collective project in which Dalí will be present as a 'subject' and not through his works. A new reading and a new positioning of Dalí from the contemporary point of view through the voices of Cabello / Carceller, Francesc Ruiz and Pepo Salazar.

The Spanish Pavilion will enter into Dalí no needing to exhibit his works.
It will show the Dalí interviews, the words, the subject Dalí.
It will show a Dalí with other items, artists and conceptually bound to each other. A route from the sensuality of the subject-character to get to other entities that allow extraordinary readings.

Taking as a starting point and track Dalí, Cabello / Carceller, Francesc Ruiz and Pepo Salazar will occur through three artistic proposals that are expressed with an international language that both are attentive to the specific interpretation of contemporary Spanish. Salvador Dalí is contextualized in the present as an artist who understood and knew the use of the media, an artist in constant symbiosis between the public and the private.

The draft Cabello / Carceller revolves around the idea of ​​multiple identities and the possibility of non-definition. Their work, filmic and performative-installative, the positions feminist and queer theories, concepts that can allow a surprising critical approach on certain aspects of the intimate life of Dalí.

Francesc Ruiz, using comics as a means of expression, will create a space for storytelling surreal and sensual. The presence of Ruiz will be twofold since, in addition to the work inside the Spanish Pavilion, the artist will occupy the Biennale Gardens during the first week of the event. The spirit of Dalí will be present with his newspaper and his contributions in various journals.

For the Spanish Pavilion, Pepo Salazar will present a work in line with its particular modus operandi: a creation that mixes atomized moments and types, creating a structure in which all options are possible. As Dalí, Pepo Salazar expands the range of artistic action by overcoming standards and conventions, cultivating a deep understanding of what it means to work in the art field. Its section invites us to think about the difficulties of access as an option sensual, the weight of linguistic materials, and impact as a strategy.

The draft Salazar for the pavilion is linked to the "Declaration of Independence of the imagination and human rights to His Madness" by Salvador Dali in 1939.
