On Thursday February 2nd and Friday February 3rd, the international symposium NEXUS PAVILION of Science, Technology and Art at La Biennale di Venezia, organized by La Biennale di Venezia and the CONNECT General Direction of the European Commission, will be held in Venice at Ca’ Giustinian. With this initiative, La Biennale prefaces the opening of its 57th International Art Exhibition with a "virtual" Pavilion called NEXUS PAVILION, that will feature the participation of important artists, musicians, curators and leading figures in the world of research, institutions and industry, to discuss the real exchange between Art and Technology, and how to improve the existing relationship between Art, Science and Technology. In the historic headquarters of the Biennale (Ca' Giustinian), across two days of debate, artists and musicians will talk about real and significant cases of practices that bring together art and technology, curators will offer a critical analysis of the new practices and new creative scenarios, and researchers will discuss their experiences. The NEXUS PAVILION symposium to be held February 2nd and 3rd – which follows the previous symposium organized in Venice in November 2015 (Nexus1 Creation at the Nexus of Science Technology and Art) – will be introduced Thursday February 2nd at 11 am by the President of the Biennale Paolo Baratta, by Eva Kaili (Greece, European Parliament) and by Ralph Dum (European Commission).
The first session (Thursday February 2nd at 11:30 am) titled Contemporary Art and Advanced (New) Technology: how they meet, when they meet, will feature the following speakers: - Zachary Kaplan, director of Rizhome, New Museum (New York) - Daehyung Lee,curator of the Korean Pavilion at the Biennale - Frank Madlener, director of IRCAM (Paris) - Gerald Bast, rector of the University of Applied Arts (Vienna) The second session (Thursday February 2nd at 2:15 pm) titled Artist Working at the Nexus,will feature the following speakers, among others: - Beatrice De Gelder (Maastricht University, Columbian University) - Bart Stolle, artist (Gand) - Andrew Quinn, multimedia artist (Milan) - Federico Solmi, artist (New York) - Michel Reilhac, director and producer (Amsterdam) - Martin Kusch,artist (Vienna) - Yiyun Kang, artist (London) The third session (Thursday February 2nd at 5:15 pm) entitled The Art World and the Technology World: now and then, will feature the following speakers, among others: - Paola Antonelli, senior curator Department of Architecture and Design Moma (NY) - Giorgia Abeltino, director Google Cultural Institute - Alexander Mankowsky, head of the Mercedes Future-Lab - Gerfried Stocker, director of Ars Electronica (Linz) The fourth session (Friday February 3rd at 9:30 am), titled Music and the digital: How they inspire each other, will feature the following speakers, among others: - Ivan Fedele, director Music Biennale - Giovanni Albini, composer and Conservatory professor (Trento) - Tolvo Tulev, composer, director of the Estonian Music Academy (Tallinn) - Daniele Ghisi, composer (Paris) - Paolo Girol, composer (Tallinn) - Antonio Camurri, Casa Paganini, University of Genoa - Thierry Coduys, artist, set designer, musician (Nice) The NEXUS PAVILION of Science, Technology and Art at La Biennale di Venezia will offer its conclusions in the late morning of Friday February 3rd. NEXUS PAVILION is a new project that intends, now and in the future, to explore and represent the direct experiences of artists who have chosen to use the new technologies in their creative practices as a field of research and production, and of curators who have focused their attention on these practices.
