Concurrently with the 18th International Architecture Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia, AAinD is honored to present “Journey over a million footpaths”, an immersive digital exhibition developed in collaboration with its creative partner SARAVÁ Project.
The exhibition, organized in association with Zuecca Projects, will be hosted at Squero Castello, Venice, from May 18th to June 18th, 2023.
Throughout this immersive experience, the audience is invited to transcend physical space and encounter a series of Central African artifacts brought to life in a thrilling dimension through the cinematic layering of sound, light, and color, using 3D scans and animations along with precious archival footage.
The traditional African artifacts become the protagonists of their own story, accompanying the viewer on a journey through an imagined landscape that harks back to the panoramas of an Africa that once was.
The groundbreaking potential of new media makes it possible to digitally exhibit African artifacts in a new physical and conceptual dimension, affording a means of restitution that makes the objects visible to larger audiences, in particular younger generations. Exposure to previously hidden or inaccessible historical objects helps fortify a link between past and present and portends a continuum.
Ultimately, the exhibition harnesses technical solutions to allow these objects greater visibility, bridging the divide in a world with otherwise poor cultural interconnectivity. Collection management becomes non- physical, and the dilemma of shipping and temperature-controlled storage is resolved. In its digital state, the material can securely rest on flash drives and iClouds.
