Canaletto returns to the place where he painted one of his masterpieces. The Abbey of San Gregorio. Not a show but an emotional experience. Taste, feel, live, alone, day or night.
For less than 50 days Canaletto back, 270 years later, in the place where he created one of his most fascinating works,
"The entrance to the Grand Canal from the Basilica della Salute".
The masterpiece of the great landscape artist will be back exactly where it is fascinating to think that the artist has conceived and created . He'll be back in the charming loggia from which he , with the optical chamber , drew the precise lines of the architecture that between 1740 and 1745 transposed in his famous painting . It is simply magnificent architecture: the baroque marvel of white marble created by Longhena as votive offerings of the city 's Health found after yet another plague, beyond the salt warehouses and the Punta della Dogana and , on the other side the Grand Canal, Doge's Palace and the Riva degli Schiavoni , on which the view is lost indefinitely in a fast-paced and highly detailed architectural details.
The whole background of a city teeming with life , dating, business. Noblemen and merchants shaman from Palazzo Ducale, boatmen and gondoliers home draw near to the shore of the Basilica , at the Punta della Dogana bags of salt, wine barrels and cotton are collected in warehouses. And the extraordinary daily life of a lively city and still great capital. Illuminated by a sky blue overseas that is reflected on a water green blue charge rifrangenze of light and color.
Canaletto tackles better than any other common problems in all the painters of view : to embrace at one glance what the eye can not comprehend . And this oil represents an absolute synthesis and symbolic composition which is reflected in a very harmonious and unified cut so bold , that it will be found even in the best " painters " nineteenth century , by Ippolito Caffi the Impressionists.
" The entrance to the Grand Canal from the Basilica della Salute" fascinated Lady Lucas and Dingwall, its first owner . The work was later purchased by Henry Grey, Duke of Kent. In April 1970 it was bought by private property at Sotheby's in London. Before returning temporarily " at home", oil Canaletto was exposed, among other things, in Madrid ( Museo Thyssen- Bornemisza ), Rome (Victorian ), Milan (Palazzo Reale) and Paris ( Maillol Museum ).
In ways never before experienced in Europe, for nearly fifty days of exposure , around this magnificent picture , is proposed to be an experience that is not just a visit but a meeting, a suggestion intimate, emotional. An experience that begins, and accompanies us , from the evocative, magical spaces of the medieval Abbey of San Gregorio and culminates in the beautiful corner room overlooking one of the world 's Basilica della Salute, the Grand Canal and the Bacino di San Marco. Place hypnotic , full of dreamy magic. For years, ever open to the public , this room will welcome the canvas by Canaletto with an unmatched comparison between canvas and urban space, between real and unreal, between history and modernity.
If only enter this solemn and severe, immersing himself in the silence that reminds us that here for almost seven centuries lived and prayed generations of Benedictines, is a strong emotion in itself , but even more so if it is lived and savored in the evening or night . Yes, because you can admire Canaletto H24 . Even on their own, for a whole hour , or with a few friends. In fact, the outstanding exclusivity of this "encounter" with the work will be emphasized by the fact that access will be allowed for a maximum of eight people for each time slot, and only by reservation on line site dedicated www.canalettovenezia.it .
To introduce the work and his teacher is a video , a real auteur film by Francesco Patierno , director and screenwriter , famous author of documentaries, music videos and commercials. His first film " Pater Familias " was invited in competition at the Berlin Film Festival and in more than fifty international events. Since then a series of successes , which have won major awards in Italy and abroad. He will be with Tonino Zera , to deal with the preparation of the exhibition / emotional . Zera , expert production designer, he has worked throughout his career with renowned Italian and foreign directors such as Liliana Cavani , Gabriele Muccino , Carlo Carlei , Spike Lee, Sam Mendes , Dennis Hopper, Giuseppe Tornatore . He has received four nominations for the David di Donatello for best production design for the film: "The Unknown" by Giuseppe Tornatore, "Hotel Meina" by Charles Lizzani, "The First Beautiful Thing" by Paolo Virzi and "The angels of evil" Michele Placido.
Maurizio Calvesi , director of photography and professional of international repute, has filmed the details of the framework with a novel technique for high-definition multimedia experience that will be proposed as in-depth , through which it will be possible to live a new and very detailed reading of the work.
The magic of St. Gregory , the magic of the best Canaletto, the magic of auteur cinema and especially the eternal magic of Venice. Together to offer a unique experience to live and enjoy at least once in their lifetime.
