Although of ancient lineage , as well as inextricably linked to the costume and the history of the island of Burano, the art of lace is firmly placed among the many forms of expression in contemporary art.
This valuable and versatile decorative accessory continues to fascinate artists from all backgrounds who, driven to confront it as a "palette" to all creative thinking, the results suggest new and different facets .
It is so for the Italian- American sculptor and painter Flora Avenue, which , after having dedicated his research to explore the world of nature , its materials and their possibilities of transformation in primary forms and essential - that lead the viewer to analytical operations - intellectuals - has remained literally fascinated by the infinite possibilities of variation that offers lace , conceiving a dozen new creations that are presented , with the title of "Fragments sacred ," in the Museum of Lace Burano .
These are works that bring to an almost "transcendent" work of art "fragments" of anthropomorphic forms sun-dried aimed specifically for the purpose of bringing to memory the marks left by the old lace before they went their works to beautify , as usual , tables or precious clothes to the rich and powerful or protect the faces of women and children.
In them, and in individual tracks valuable collections in the showcases of the museum , you can show the " sediments " of the transformation that , for the artist, often takes the form of a delicate " chrysalis " from the complex and striking geometric structure , in which all elements - light , color , transparency, the subtle interplay between full and empty space - chase each other to act as in the atmosphere calm , muffled and " sacred " of the lagoon , as if to bring back to memory what we or our precious the past.
Edited by Giovanna Nicoletti and Flora Avenue, the exhibition is on display from May 18, 2013 to January 5, 2014 to the first floor of the Lace Museum in Burano .
There is combined with the second issue of the series " Textures " ( Venice Civic Museums Foundation , 2013) .
