Young artists and sense of the sacred

The exhibition "Young artists and sense of the sacred", open from May 1 to June 24, 2015 and organized on the occasion of the Exposition of the Shroud and the exposure of the Lamentation of Beato Angelico in the Diocesan Museum of Turin, is the final result of the contest sponsored by 'Sant'Anselmo Association and Crossroads Foundation in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, sponsored by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, the National Office of Cultural Heritage of the Italian Episcopal Conference, the Archdiocese of turin and the Organizing Committee of the Exposition of the Shroud.
How can today, at the beginning of the twenty-first century, through signs, figures and forms, pay homage to the Shroud, the trace of a body which many look with devotion, others with skepticism? Which expectation, what hope, what future is witness this memory? Likewise, what ideas are derived from the comparison with the Lamentation of Beato Angelico that expresses artistically a similar subject?
Students of the Italian academies were invited to express their artistic sensibility, dealing with the Shroud and the Lamentation of Beato Angelico or through a direct homage to two images that can awaken a religious sense or considering a starting reference to freely express sense of the sacred.
The exhibition presents the works of young artists in the exhibition halls of the Art Gallery of the Albertina, placing them in dialogue with the masterpieces of its collection, which ranges from the fifteenth to the twentieth century. For the event, it is also inaugurated the rearrangement of the Hall of Cartoons Gaudenzian that, based on the theme of the Passion and Resurrection, highlights some splendid Renaissance drawings as the Pietà by Gaudenzio Ferrari, the Christ of the Precious Blood of Bernardino and Lanino The Resurrection of Christ by Giuseppe Giovenone the Younger.
The coordination of the project was entrusted to Prof. Laura Valle, professor of contemporary sacred painting at the Accademia Albertina, and Dr. Enrico Zanellati, staff member of the Art Gallery.
The exhibition of the works selected for the competition is organized by the designer Ugo Li Puma, famous for the formal elegance of its equipment scenic cardboard.
