Installation "The Arabic Sicilian Library" by Stalker and De Luca.
A journey into the heart of the Mediterranean, through the magical tale of travelers Arabs in Sicily in its moment of greatest splendor.
That's what gives the public the Library Sicilian Arabic, signed by the Roman group Stalker and artist Puglia Antonio De Luca in 2001 and today in Turin on the occasion of "Words Suspended", the event promoted by the MAO, in collaboration with the Foundation Orestiadi, Institute of High Culture Onlus.
In a space of room Mazzonis specially dedicated to the work, visitors will move inside in a selection of texts dedicated to the places, customs and traditions of the Muslim Sicily, inspired by the volume Sicilian Library - Arab of famous Orientalist Michele Amari.
A historical evocation of extraordinary returns to the public the cultural influences of the island at its highest, but not only. Installing Stalker and De Luca also suggests a reflection of absolute relevance on intercultural dialogue and brotherhood among peoples who many centuries ago found complete expression in Koine Mediterranean.
The Arabic Library Sicilian comes to MAO after participating in the exhibition Islam in Sicily: a garden between two civilizations.
A project started in 2002 and dedicated to the analysis and representation of the mutual influences between the different cultures that gave birth on the island, between the ninth and twelfth centuries, a privileged stage of osmosis between different worlds and peaceful coexistence between Jews, Muslims and Christians which led among other things to the creation of some of the great masterpieces of medieval art.
In seven years the exhibition has traveled more than 30,000 kilometers, passing the most important capitals of the Arab world through Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Yemen, Pakistan, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
A message of peace between peoples that is renewed today at MAO.
