This brings to completion the magnificent trilogy dedicated to the masters of Impressionism, initiated in Turin in 2012 with the painter of the “ballerinas” and continued in 2013 with Renoir. The last stage of this ambitious artistic journey is dedicated to no other than Monet, to whom is due the very name, Impressionism, of the artistic movement so beloved around the world.
Get ready to immerse yourself in a wave of colour this autumn. Sponsored by the City of Turin and Skira editore, the exhibition will be held at GAM – Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea of Turin, whose long-standing collaboration with the Musée d’Orsay has made it possible to bring forty of Monet’s masterpieces to the Piedmont capital.
Various themes will be covered in this remarkable exhibition, which will treat the viewer to the splendour of Impressionist landscapes and portraits of elegant late nineteenth-century women. The Magpie, Study of a Figure Outdoors: Woman with a Parasol, Facing Right, The Boat at Giverny, Houses of Parliament, and Luncheon on the Grass are just a few of the masterpieces visitors will find at GAM this autumn.
The true stars of this long-awaited retrospective dedicated to the French master are light and colour. Indeed, the itinerary culminates with two of Monet’s most important works inspired by his fascination with the effects of light: Rouen Cathedral, the Portal, Grey Weather and Rouen Cathedral, the Portal and Saint-Romain Tower in Full Sun.
Clearly, this last exhibition of the great art and masters of Impressionism series in Turin is an event not to be missed.
“So I always have to be making changes, for everything is growing and turning green. In short, by dint of changes, I follow Nature without being able to grasp her, and then there is the river that shrinks and swells, green one day, yellow the next, dry every afternoon, and which tomorrow will be a torrent.”
