From 11 April to 30 May 2015, at the National University Library of Turin, will host the exhibition titled: "A Throne in the clouds: 1876-1960 the modern history of Tibet told through the autobiography the fourteenth Dalai Lama".
The exhibition, curated by Giovanni Carlo Rocca, will be the modern history of Tibet presenting books, newspapers and magazines, photographs and original artifacts Tibetans: 86 years of walking through the events in Tibet, narrated by words taken dall'autobiografia XIV Dalai Lama, published in 1962, entitled "My land, my people" (My Land and My people).
The design of the exhibition is a collaboration between the National University Library of Turin, associations Purple Middle Way, the ABNUT (Association of Friends of the National University Library of Turin), the association MAITRI Buddhist Studies Center and the Association of Italian Tibet ; workshops for schools will be built in collaboration with the Association ARCOTE and the theater company STILEMA.
The opening day will be presented the book on the modern history of Tibet, published by the publishing house Purple, translated in English and Tibetan.
Inside, a message of official support of the XIV Dalai Lama.
The exhibition will include the collection of books on Tibet Library, the library materials and vintage photo of Purple, antiquity of Tibetan culture in private collections and photos of the project 'Tibet, beyond the time - a fantastic journey from Lhasa in Turin '.
For the occasion will be exposed pictures of the same project realized in the city of Trieste.
During the exhibition will be presented an excerpt from the 2014 Spanish documentary entitled "Earth Sutra", made by Jordi Carot and supported by "Tibet House Foundation Barcelona", from "Tibet Catalonia" and the Purple Middle Way.
"Earth Sutra" is a documentary about Tibetan culture and condition, focusing on four key issues: universal justice, natural resources in Asia, the improvement of the human condition and the survival of a culture that is disappearing.
In addition to having the support of the "Tibetan Community in Italy", the '' Tibetan Community Spanish '' the Venerable Thubten Whanchen, director of the Tibet House in Barcelona and Italian Tibet Association, the exhibition "A Throne in the clouds" is sponsored by:
Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities - City of Turin - Province of Turin - Piedmont Region - Regional Council of Piedmont.
The exhibition will be an opportunity to explore several issues, such as:
Tibetan culture and history;
the international scientific and anthropological expeditions to Tibet;
Italian expeditions to Tibet;
the problems of the Tibetan people in exile in Nepal and India, through a didactic;
information and awareness of the difficulties in preserving the culture of a people busy and partly exile.
The exhibition is aimed at all those who nurture curiosity about any art form and are eager to learn about other cultures; in particular:
those who want to improve their knowledge on the issue of Tibet and the Tibetan people;
photography enthusiasts, history and literature;
members of voluntary associations;
those who are particularly sensitive to the issue of solidarity;
schools (for the teaching, but not only);
the Tibetan community internationally.
