Piero Tosi and Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. A relationship born in the 1988 and still alive, as told by the exhibition that will be inaugurated at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni the next 17th of October and will document the teaching activity carried out by the great costume in the most ancient and important school of Italian Cinema.
Born in Sesto Fiorentino in 1927, Piero Tosi has been one of the most brilliant creators of costumes for cinema, theatre, opera and television. His magisterium is recognized all over the world, as evidenced by the Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement received by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences in 2013, after five Oscar nominations for films such as "Il Gattopardo", "Morte a Venezia", "Ludwig", "The vice" and "La Traviata".
Tosi has linked his name to films and immortal directors, starting with Luchino Visconti and Federico Fellini to get to Lina Wertmuller, Liliana Cavani, Franco Zeffirelli, Vittorio De Sica, Mario Monicelli, Marco Ferreri, Gianni Amelio and above all Mauro Bolognini, with who has established an artistic relationship that has gone through the decades. But Tosi has always been a generous artist in love with teamwork, which made him an extraordinary teacher.
In 28 years of work at the Centro Sperimentale (from 1988 to 2016) he has trained dozens of talents, from Massimo Cantini Parrini to Daniela Ciancio, from Andrea Cavalletto to Andrea Sorrentino, and has worked with all the young actors and directors who trained at the CSC in those decades. The exhibition tells this work and this mission, which are inextricably linked to the work that Tosi place in parallel on the set and on stages all over the world.
