Ever since the start of his artistic research, Federico Seppi (Trento, 1990) has investigated the places and times in which nature is transformed.

Sometimes this means natural events, while other times it’s the human presence that leaves its mark.
In his sculptures and bidimensional works, Federico Seppi showcases phenomena of the universe, turning them into apparitions.
Right from the tiny landscapes that originate as minimal travel notes, the artist recounts an idea of nature that appears as a mystical vision. These notes start off during his travels, moving through various countries, through the intimate discovery of the environment. The drawings are simplified traces, sometimes almost abstract: natural views whittled down to a signic complexity, enhanced by the presence of frames produced by the artist himself using nineteenth-century moulds. Light and shadow overlap creating an almost tangible presence, where the graphic stroke is at its thickest.

The wall sculptures dedicated to the movement of broken ice, to the falling drop, bear the very ‘skin’ of mountain elements. The glacier (Ghiacciaio Due Forni) is itself a metaphor for existence and its metamorphosis. His use of wood – with its fibres embellished by silvering – outlines a map of the Earth, a subtle weave that seems to erode the surface, giving rise to a movement of concentric waves (Minimi segni) or kaleidoscopic fragmentations (Astrazioni).

Federico Seppi was born in Trento in 1990.

In 2014 he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice in the painting course. He graduated with honours in Sculpture with Mario Airò by discussing a thesis entitled ‘Materia viva’ (‘Living matter’), deepening the poetics of materials in the representation of the binomial Art and Ecology.
Between 2015 and 2016 he attended the Sculpture and Installation course in Cardiff, at the Metropolitan University.
In 2015 he participated in the group exhibition Nature, Art and Ecology at the MART Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto, Civic Gallery.
In 2019 he participated in the collective exhibition Materia Prima at Palazzo Aliprandini in Livo (Val di Non). The same year the ‘E(U)nglish Lawn’ project was selected for the London is Open residency and presented at the Estorick collection of Modern Art in London.

In 2021, he was selected by the GNAM, Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, in Rome (on the occasion of the ninth edition of Level 0: the format for ArtVerona in Verona and Artissima in Turin, for the promotion of young artists).
