Werther Gasperini. Itineraria Hominis

Itineraria Hominis is the second chapter of the cycle Ordres du Jour – Orders of business begun by the artist in Brussels in June 2016 with the exhibition Ministère d’Affaires Intérieures.

Ordres du Jour is divided into sections that refer to current social and human problems. Orders of business are the points of an imaginary, universal and collective agenda that have to be discussed during a “meeting” with all of humanity. Migration and escaping from wars, have always been a part of humanity's historical record.
In this chapter the artist will create an artwork-pathway that intends to explore the human tragedy of migrants died in the Mediterranean Sea. 

The installation aims at disclosing what we are, the human sense as migrant beings, the human as subject ready to face important upheavals such as violence and death of others. 

Itineraria Hominis invites us to reflect on the horror of History seeking a new process of sharing, and a word that can renew a feeling, an awareness, a chance but not a consolation. 

In this chapter the artist will dialogue with a special venue: the Church of Santa Maria in Passione, deconsacrated and in ruins, to seal the reunification of both worlds belonging to different cultures and religions, wanting to cause a reaction that leads us to reflect on how the coexistence of two cultural and religious alphabets is possible at the same time and in the same place.

The church is located on the hill of Castello and stands in an ancient part of the city; in the midst of the first place to be inhabited in Genoa. It also overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. Founded in 1323, the church had undergone numerous architectural and decorative changes before it was closed in 1866, when the religious order was suppressed and the church was no longer a place of worship. It was almost completely destroyed by air raids during World War II, and the complex remained in ruins until the 90s when restoration work started, however unfortunately had to be suspended due to lack of funds. In 2014, a group of young architects felt the need to restore this abandoned space for the local community. La Libera Collina di Castello was created as a urban and cultural Park on the archeological site of Santa Maria in Passione.

On September 10th the installation will turn into a scenography for a poetry happening with Tommaso Di Dio, Stefano Raimondi and Luciano Neri, music and sounds by Paolo Traverso.
